Lux launches Halide Mark II app with revamped interface and more professional photography tools
Lux Optics has introduced a new generation of the Halide camera application with a revamped interface, compatible with iPhone. 12 Pro ProRAW standard and extended professional photography tools.
Halide Mark II is not described as a simple application update. Instead, Lux calls it “like a brand new app” that incorporates lessons learned from the first version of Halide with technology originally developed for the Specter app.
That includes a revamped user interface featuring new gesture-based mode switches and “accessible” controls for one-handed iPhone use. The user interface has also been designed to take advantage of every pixel on an iPhone screen, including new iPhone screens. 12 and iPhone 12 Pro.
Halide’s manual focus bar, for example, has additional controls, improved precision, and custom physics. A “Touch Touch” mechanism automatically enables or disables features such as exposure warnings as users adjust exposure or focus.
And alongside the new design is a suite of new photography tools, including those that take advantage of Apple’s new ProRAW standard. Although only available on iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max, Halide Mark II is “ProRAW ready” for the future.
Halide Mark II includes an “Instant RAW” feature that can instantly develop RAW files taken within an application through machine learning to obtain the best possible results in a short period of time. There’s a new photography mode called Coverage that takes a photo with Smart HDR and Deep Fusion, as well as an additional RAW digital negative file, so photographers have plenty of options when editing the file later.
Lux has also updated the luminance and color histograms, and introduced a third type of display mode called Waveform that lets users know which color channels are clipped.
One of the standout new features, according to the company, is a visualization tool called XDR Analysis that promises to offer a full 14-bit RAW Exposure and read preview. The reviewer also provides users with a full read of metadata for image property inspection.
The app creators also announced a new pricing structure. Halide Mark II is now free to download and the full feature set is available for $ 11.99 per year. That doesn’t mean that one-off prices are going away; Lux says users have the option to buy it forever for $ 36.
Additionally, Halide Mark II is offered for a starting promotional price of $ 9.99 a year, and users who get that price get it forever. The developer says that he expects the membership price to increase as new features are added. Current Halide users get Halide Mark II for free, as well as a full year of member updates.
