Google’s foldout seems to no longer be in the plans

Earlier this year, some rumors spoke of a possible arrival of the first foldable smartphone from Google for the month of October. Of course, that didn’t happen, as the company just rolled out the series Pixel 6. However, that doesn’t mean the company doesn’t have a leaflet in the works yet.

Now, however, that leaflet could be set aside. According to the leaker Ross Young, Google Pixel Fold is no longer scheduled. Young claims that Google allegedly has canceled orders for the materials that would be needed to produce the folding on a large scale.

Bad news for those waiting for the Google Pixel Fold. We hear they have canceled parts orders and decided not to bring it to market as indicated in the latest DSCC Weekly Review. See blog excerpt at https://t.co/EVmWKcgi2c. @DisplaySupply pic.twitter.com/2P5lFW09Pt

Young further argues that there are two main reasons behind this decision. The first is the concern for competition. Samsung dominates the leaflet market, so to compete Google would have to offer something better or something less expensive. The second reason, on the other hand, is one shortage of materials. The current global shortage of chips is making it difficult for companies to keep even more phones in production elementary.
