Galaxy S10: fingerprint reader under the most advanced display in the world

According to South Korean media, Samsung Galaxy S10 could be equipped with fingerprint reader under the display with third generation ultrasonic sensornever seen on a smartphone.

GALAXY S10, NEWS COMING

The third generation ultrasonic sensor made by Qualcomm could concretely represent one of the greatest strengths of Samsung Galaxy S10: for the first time this sensor will be used on a smartphone and mass produced.

However, Samsung was not the first manufacturer to release a device with a fingerprint reader under the display: the very recent I live NEX is a striking example, with the (optical) scanner made by the Chinese company Gudix. Samsung will equip the Galaxy A, mid-range devices, with underscreen fingerprint readers also produced by Gudix, while Qualcomm ultrasonic sensors will be used for the top of the range.

Qualcomm second generation sensors are capable of working under glass up to 800 microns, while those of the first generation stop at 300 microns. We can see the Qualcomm sensor at work on the Huawei Mate 20 Pro, which has obtained an exclusive license.

According to what some analysts said, Samsung would have chosen the reader that will arrive on board the Galaxy S10 among three possible solutions, offered by different companies. The choice would have fallen on the ultrasonic sensor of Qualcommas it would be able to work with 1.2mm OLED panelssupport the gesture and insure it unlocking under water. Finally, this sensor would be able to detect blood flow and heartbeat, to provide very accurate biometric identification.
