Upcoming smartphones may have a color-changing leather back

Smartphones with color changing backs seem to be there new trend in 2022since both Vivo and Realme have launched phones that change color when exposed to sunlight. Obviously this novelty is limited to plastic or glass backs at the moment, but another smartphone brand, Infinix, has an ace up his sleeve.

The smartphone company owned by Transsion announced a retro in faux leather that changes color. Just like Realme and Vivo’s efforts, the back cover changes when exposed to UV rays or sunlight. Naturally, the faux leather cover returns to its original color once it is removed from sunlight.

Infinix claims to use photochromic polymers in the leather back to allow for these color changes, adding that it does not require additional power from the smartphone. The company also notes that it is possible to create custom motifs on the back cover using stencils, although this seems like a very temporary motif given the color changing nature. The company says the color-changing leather back will be available on future devices, though it hasn’t provided one timing for the release.
