TIM abandons WAP and offers 120 € to scrap your old phone


The WAPacronym for Wireless Application Protocol, is a internet connection protocol developed for mobile phones by Alain Rossman in December 1994. This protocol arrived in Italy in 1999 thanks to Omnitel, which was followed by other Italian and European operators. Among phone manufacturers, the first to adopt this technology was Nokia, which also released the 7110, the first mobile phone with a wap browser, in 1999. Today, however, this protocol has become obsolete and TIM is ready to abandon it.

Tim has, in fact, recently announced that he will be leaving from next 30 June it will no longer be possible to access the internet through wap browsers.

The devices involved are about sixty (here you can find the complete list), which include models that, in a certain sense, have certainly made history.

All the other servicessuch as calls, SMS is using the phone as a modem using the IBOX APN, they will continue to function regularly.
