The first developer preview of Android 13 arrives surprisingly

Google released Thursday the first Developer Preview for Android 13even if we are still waiting the release of Android 12L. There aren’t many new features in the developer preview, but there are some changes worth highlighting, such as the new quick settings panes.

One of the most interesting news is in fact the new pane Quick settings for scanning QR codes, which some manufacturers like Samsunghave been offering on their versions of Android for years. Even if the button exists in the Android system, the actual scan functionality is not: tapping the button invokes an external application defined in the system’s “device_config” to open the scanner.

There are also some other new quick settings panes in Android 13, although it’s still unclear how many of them will actually show outside of developer / beta builds. One of these is a box showing i foreground services currently running in a popup.
