Robots, a technology that can compete with the human being
It sounds like a science fiction movie when we talk about what robots can be capable of. The documentary ***Ideas that revolutionized the world***, available on Movistar+, details how these mechanisms have developed to become an essential element in our lives.
Throughout our history we have considered ourselves as a unique species who has been able to transform the world in which we live, but there is a artificial species that can be up to us: the robots.
Many of our readers will think that the idea of creating beings mechanics it is something related to today, but they are wrong. What was an idea thousands of years ago has become one of the technologies most revolutionary of history.
It all started in Greece
The history of robots begins thousands of years ago in the Ancient Greecewhere the poet Homer wrote the legend of the god of fire, Hephaestus.
The story tells that the Greek god was expelled from the Mount Olympus and consequently forged two mechanical minions. This legend was the first time mentioning machines with appearance human.
Eight centuries later, the Greek engineer Heron of Alexandria decided to turn that dream into reality, and started designing machines who could appear on stage and perform simple tasks how to serve wine
In the ninth century AD, the Banu Musa brothers they built one machine which was a big step towards robotics. They designed a machine automaton able to create a melody and record it to play back later. She went on to become first programmable machine of history
Automaton or robot?
People have always been surprised to see a machine imitating actions that a human being. And the highest point that was achieved in robotics was creating the writer.
The writer is an automaton composed of more than 6,000 moving partsable to write texts of more than forty characters. The text was programmed by metal sheets that had to be installed in the mechanism of the robot.
But the automata They are not the same as robots. An automaton cannot learn neither change their behavior. robots must be machines that are able to think.
Where does the word robot come from?
Years ago, people did not know the meaning of the word robotbut this changed in 1920 thanks to the cubist painter Josef Capeck.
His playwright brother, Karel Capeckexplained the plot of his new play theater. A story in which a race of mechanical men rebelled against their owners humans. The problem is that he did not know what to call these artificial beings, and the cubist painter proposed the name of robot.
The word robot was taken from the word robot What does it mean servitude in czech
The first robot capable of solving mathematical problems
The concept of robot you are already familiar with the popular culture in the 1930s, but could they understand the world around them? That seemed impossible until it appeared Alan Turing on 1935.
Alan Turing imagined a machine carrying a Program in his memory, a device that was capable of solving any problem within the limits of math. She got it and ended up knowing like universal Turing machine.
not only solved a math problem. She had invented a computer language that could solve any kind of problems.
current robotics
During the last decades, and thanks to the digitization, robotics has been growing exponentially. Currently, we have robots that are part of our home, and that help us carry out daily tasks.
We also know the case of cyborgswhich are those people who have a robotic part in their organism.
Is it possible to see robots with a human appearance identical? Will robots in the future be able to exercise Rights like humans? Over the years, we will find answers to these questions.
Would you like to know more about the world of robots? On Movistar+ you can see the documentary Ideas that revolutionized the world where he robot along with other inventions like the car or the smartphone have marked a before and after in our history.
