Motorola Droid is freaking out in the near future

It is that moment again: the hour of rumors. This time the Motorola Droid is the suspect thanks to a post on Motorola Facebook and a SlashGear article, both pointing to the Motorola Droid (and possibly other phones as well) getting the Android 2.2 update “in the near future.”

Here is the text of an answer sent to SlashGear on the topic of updating to Android FroYo:

We are excited to see the news from Google about the next version of the Android operating system and look forward to integrating it into our Android-based devices as it becomes available to the open source community.

While I cannot comment on the details, we hope that DROID by Motorola users will receive Android 2.2 as a software update in the near future.

In an optimistic view, SlashGear notes that Motorola mentioned integrating the update into “their Android-based devices. Yes, this could be just standard PR talk, and basically beating around the bush, but here again we hope beyond hope that that means MOTOBLUR devices are not being left to graze. ” Coming back to reality, they also remind us that the Droid has Android 2.1 not long ago.

Phandroid reports a Facebook post from Motorola hinting about updates to Android phones that says:

Sony does not rule out buying more first party studios in the future

Hi guys, we know you have questions about software updates. We will share more information as soon as possible!

Phandroid also notes that an obvious reason for the Droid to receive the FroYo update is because it runs the standard Android operating system experience, just like the Nexus One.

If you want to start guessing when the update will roll out, I recommend a date of at least a month from now, maybe two. We will have to wait and see what happens.
