Google is interested in a space in Manhattan to open its first retail store

Crain’s New York would have reported, a few days ago, a rumor it would see Google is interested in renting a space in SoHo, Manhattan, to open what would be its first physical store.

The Mountain View company, to be precise, would have eyed 131 Greene St., a space about the size of 4100 square meterslocated near high-end fashion retailers such as Hugo Boss, Ralph Lauren, Tiffany & Co., Louis Vuitton, and Apple, among others.

For some time now, we have been talking about Google’s interest in opening physical stores in the Apple Store style. These could show the public about Big G’s services and even hardware, such as Nexus devices (or Google Play Edition), Chromebooks or Chromecast. Above all, a store could play a role key: show people the potential of Google Glassa bit like Apple has used the Apple Stores to make even the most skeptical of the iPad think again.

What can I say, it will certainly be a long time before Google opens one on Italian soil (assuming it does), but hope is the last to die, isn’t it?
