Google Home will play ad-free music from YouTube Music

Google announced today on the YouTube blog that anyone with Google Home or Google Home Mini will be able to play ad-free music from YouTube Music. But it announces that this feature does not allow you to pick and choose which songs or albums you want to listen to.

Exactly one year ago, Google had launched a new function for Google Assistant, which is to set YouTube as the smartphone’s default music player. While until before it was necessary to enter the word “YouTube” to play a song (eg: “Play Track X on YouTube).

Being able to listen to music on your Google Home speaker without ads seems to be too good to be true, right? From now YouTube Music offers this experience for free, supported by advertising on Google Home. You can ask Google Home to play the right music for any moment or mood, without ads.

YouTube invites, as regards mobile devices, to upgrade to YouTube Music Premium for € 9.99 per month, in order to take advantage of all the functions that would not work with the standard version such as the possibility to request a specific album, a category of songs, specific artists and playlists, as well as unlimited skips and song playback. YouTube Music Premium also allows you to play music in the background through the app and allows you to download it for offline listening when you are on the go. You can still try the Premium feature for 30 days and decide at the end whether to continue or cancel.

that’s how set YouTube Music as default:
Go to Account Settings in the Google Home app, click on Services and select Music. Then, select YouTube Music as your default music service.

If you’re setting up a new Google Home, choose YouTube Music as your default music service during the setup process.

Ad-free music playback is available in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Australia, Great Britain, Ireland, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Japan, the Netherlands, and Austria. It will be available in other countries soon.
