Google could present its first foldable smartphone

G.oogle has been working on a foldable smartphone for some time. The company first confirmed the “study of foldable displays and many other new hardware technologies “in the May 2019. At the time, however, there were no plans to bring a foldable smartphone to market.

In August of last year we glimpsed new references to the foldable Pixel device, when a leaked internal document mentioned a codenamed device “passport“. While the document didn’t reveal much about the phone itself, it did reference the launch date as fourth quarter of 2021. Now that we’re just a few months away from the alleged date, new details have leaked.

According to a new report by The Electhe alleged Google Pixel Fold will feature a foldable display from 7.6 in of Samsung Display with a layer of ultra-thin glass (UTG). Based on that, Google may announce the Pixel Fold alongside the series Pixel 6 before the end of the year.

Along with information regarding the Pixel Fold, The Elec’s latest report also sheds light on a number of other folding devices arriving. Claims that XiaomiHonor and OPPO are also working on 2-in-1 devices with UTGlikely to hit the market by the end of the year or early 2022.
