Detect WiFi thieves on your Movistar Router

There are several symptoms that give us a clue that there is a WiFi thief near us. maybe your connection go slower than usual at certain hours. But stealing WiFi is not something that goes unpunished. Leave trace.

For a start. If you are a Movistar Fusión customer, using the Smart WiFi App you will know which devices have connected to your Movistar Router. And if you find an unknown device, there you have it. Don’t use Android? What is that connected Android phone doing? Don’t have an iPad at home? Why does it appear there? the app itself will notify you when a new device connects.

Once detected, you can pause the connection or block it directly from the application. clicking on lock device, you will prevent it from reconnecting to steal your WiFi. To avoid blocking your devices, you will see the internal IP and MAC address on the tab.

The Smart WiFi mobile app is available on iPhone and Android. From here you can activate the gaming functionality. This allows you to prioritize the signal on up to two devices you select and improve their connectivity by opening ports. There is also a Living App version to use on your TV through your UHD decoder of Movistar. Thanks to the Living App we can also see who is connected to the network and take action on the devices. There are two possible actions on connected devices; the first is to pause the connection and resume it whenever you want, and the second allows you to block intruding devices that you detect. The pause is temporary, for example, so that the little ones in the house can study without distractions during the afternoon. Then you go back to resume the connection to their devices. The one to block is in case we detect an intrusive device, although this action is rectifiable in any case. In addition, you can change the name and password of the WiFi network from the Living App.

All this from the sofa, without the need for calls or visits from technicians. It’s as simple as accessing the Living App, selecting the device on which we want to perform an action, and authenticating ourselves as the owner. This is a security test. We have to put our password to ensure that the person who is going to carry out this action is the owner. Once we have the permission, there is a time of ten minutes to carry out the actions that we want until we are requested again. It is a very simple process that allows you to control the connection of the connected devices in a secure way.

From the Movistar Router configuration it is also possible to see if devices are connected without permission. However, to avoid touching what we shouldn’t, with Smart Wi Fi we will solve the problem easily: we will detect connections and block them instantly.

Change your WiFi password

If someone has agreed to steal your WiFi, it means that they have found out what the password of the WiFi points is. If so, you will need to change those passwords. The advantage of having the Smart WiFi mobile application installed is that you can do it in just a few seconds and in a few steps.

To change the WiFi password, open the Smart WiFi mobile app and look at the menu at the bottom of the screen. There is an option called “My network”, click on it. You will find two different views, one called “Self diagnosis” and another called “My WiFi”, which is the one that interests us. Once you access, you will see that the different home networks appear (WiFi and WiFi Plus) as well as the option to create a network for guests. Clicking on any of them will give you the option to change the name of the network (here you can customize it to your liking) and also the option to add a new password. As a recommendation, it should be between 8 and 31 characters, you can use numbers, letters and special symbols to make it more complex.

Even if you have no indication that someone may be stealing your WiFi, it is recommended to update the password from time to time to reinforce security.
